AFRMA Rattery/Mousery Names

This page is a list of Rattery/Mousery Names used by AFRMA members. The listing is free to members and no requirements have to be met.

Note: Having your name on this page is not the same as becoming an Official Registered Breeder. See the Official Registered breeder page to learn how to qualify and for a list of AFRMA Official Registered Ratteries/Mouseries.

Rattery/Mousery (Stud) Names and initials (2 to 4 characters) must be unique from any others used as these represent the breeder of that animal. The name or initials are to be listed in front of an animal’s name on a pedigree or when shown. If the name is short enough, you can just use the whole name rather than having initials (e.g. Alces or Tiara). Initials can be comprised of the first character of each word of the name (e.g. LOS for Lots O’ Spots) or an abbreviated version of a word that describes the name (e.g. BKWD for Backwoods; SHFR for Shafer and Sleepy Hollow Fancy Rats which is both an abbreviation of the breeder’s name and initials of the rattery name; VRMN for Viking Rat & Mouse Nest or vermin). GCH or CH cannot be used as they stand for Grand Champion and Champion.

Be sure to check the list below as well as these other places on the use of names and initials to make sure your choice hasn’t already been used and is not too similar to an existing name: The Ratster, NARR Member Listing or NARR Breeders List, Facebook breeders, and other club listings of breeders/members (NFRS Registered Breeders or NFRS Registered Stud Names, Current NFRS Studs and Ratteries, Australian NSW Fancy Rodent Society, Inc., Danish DMG, Finland FFRS rat list or Finland FinnMouse, Swedish SRS rat list, FMBA, FRBA), The Rat Fan Club, Rat Breeder Directory. Once a name and initials have been used, they can’t be used again.

The Rattery/Mousery (Stud) Name of each breeder shall be used in connection with the names of the animals bred by him/her. The breeder is the person owning the female at the time of breeding and is recognized as the breeder of the babies produced by such breeding. The breeder’s Stud Name and animal’s name or ID number must always stay with the animal. When showing, this full ID must always be used (if the animal came with a name or number). If the animal doesn’t have a name or number, then you may use your own name/number but must use the breeder’s Stud Name as a prefix (if there is one). You may give the animal a second name and call it what you like.

When animals are shown for the first time, the name entered at that time must then be used on all successive entries, so we can keep track of awards for each animal.
