Did You Know? One species of bamboo rat
can grow up to 20 inches long, and weigh up to 8 pounds.
They feed on bamboo and the roots of plants and are
considered an agricultural pest. They are an important
food source for the native people and in the southwest
areas of China, they are a source of income for farmers
who breed these large muskrat-looking rodents for food
and pelts.
